Hart: I'm interested in manager's job

Last updated : 26 April 2005 By Rob Davies
Out-of-work Hart has been heavilly linked with the post ever since it was confirmed that current boss Ian Richardson's managerial contract would not be extended beyond the summer.

And, after originally rulling himself out of the running, quotes stemming from TeamTalk suggest that Hart would be interested should the Magpies board make the approach.

Is he? Isn't he?
Quotes assigned to Hart read: "I know there's been speculation linking me with the job but where's it's coming from I really don't know.

"I've been down to Notts to watch a couple of matches and the board have come out to say they're not going to give the job to Ian (Richardson) next season so I have felt a bit uncomfortable about that.

"But there's been no approach from the club and I know Howard (Wilkinson) quite well so I'm sure he would speak to me about it.

"I'm obviously very flattered to be linked with the job and if I were approached I would certainly be interested."

Hart, despite media reports signalling the contrary, was said to be one of the back-runners for the Meadow Lane post. Whether these quotes - and it is by no means certain that they are 100% genuine, or haven't been taken out of context - change that or not is uncertain.

The former City Ground chief - who has since managed Barnsley - is one of a whole hosts of names already linked with the post, with a stream of applications said to have been sent in.

Other names touted include Keith Curle, Lincoln boss Keith Alexander, Colin Lee, Ray Lewington and Ray Graydon.
