Hackworth Heads North

Tony Hackworth may have been transfer listed by new boss Gary Mills, but as revealed in our exclusive interview with Mills, Hackworth had not attracted any interest from a single club until today. He is off to Scarborough Town for a month!

As revealed earlier on the Club’s Official Website; Tony Hackworth, who signed from Leeds United for £120,000 back in July 2001, is off up t’North to the Seadogs for a month’s loan which will start tomorrow.

Hackworth Is Heading Up North!
The Scarborough gaffer, Russell Slade – Neil Warnock’s former assistant at Meadow Lane - is hoping that Hackworth can fire some goals for them as they fight to stay in the Conference and obviously league football. Quite ironic seeing as he has only scored 3 goals for Notts in 65 appearances! With his last goal hitting the net TWO years ago, despite a five match run in the Notts side only a couple of months ago.

It is widely known that Hackworth is one of the highest earners at
Meadow Lane and this was the main reason why Mills put him on the transfer list, thus avoiding paying a further £25,000 appearance fee to his former club Leeds United.

One would assume
Scarborough would only be paying a small percentage of his fees, if any, with them being a Conference side.

Hackworth is expected to make his debut in
Scarborough Town’s Nationwide Conference clash against Leigh RMI on Saturday.

Either way, this loan spell gives Hackworth the opportunity to play some first team football and, who knows he might catch the eye of someone who might like to take him permanently, or he might not.

One thing's for certain, Hackworth will now show his true colours. He can sit and do nothing picking up a hefty pay cheque at Notts for the next year, or he can try and get himself back in action and prove just why Notts paid so much for him 3 years ago, and try and work his way back up the ladder in the process.

Then, and only then, will he get some respect of the Notts fans.
