Gudjon signs non-contract pair

With Tony Scully and Matty Williams seemingly on their way out of the club, manager Gudjon Thordarson has moved to cover his interests with the additions of attacking-minded midfielders Stacey Long, 20, and Jake Sheridan, 18.

Stacey Long: He's got it going on...apparently.
After signing non-contract terms last week, Thordarson has stretched as far as to offer the pair one-year deals all round after a hectic week for the young pair.

The duo made their professional debuts earlier this week with Sheridan coming off the bench at Torquay, whilst Stacey Long – more tellingly – was introduced late-on on Tuesday evening, scoring a last-minute winner for the Magpies against Wrexham.

Long – who, like Sheridan, spent much of the latter stages of last season with the Magpies as well as the close season – was released by Premiership side Charlton Athletic at the end of the last season having failed to make an impact at the Valley.

Sheridan, however, comes – like Steve Scoffham before him – from the local non-league scene, having spent last season with Dunkirk, where he picked up a fee of just £50 a game. He had previously spent time at Meadow Lane, but was released at the age of just 15.

They become Thordarson's sixth and seventh permanent signings since taking over as Magpies boss in May.

The pair have been included in tomorrow’s squad for the visit of Lincoln City.
