The 24-year-old has spent the last two weeks on trial at Meadow Lane and, despite initially failing to prove Thordarson of his worth, has now been given a chance to earn a permanent deal with the Magpies.

Once thought of as a player with huge potential, Chillingworth has fallen out-of-favour with the struggling Diamonds since signing on a free transfer in the summer, making just six appearences this season - the last of which came back in October.

The powerful marksman has struggled with injuries since progressing as a trainee with Cambridge Utd, but admits he is looking forward to proving people wrong with the Magpies.

"I'm quite a hard-working player and I'm just looking forward to playing again, because I've not done too much of that this season," the striker told the official site.

Thordarson had been keen to add fire-power to his squad, especially after the woeful collective effort of front three Steve Scoffham, Eugene Dadi and Jake Sheridan during Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Rushden.

Chillingworth is expected to start as a substitute for tomorrow's visit of high-flying Wycombe Wanderers.
