Gordon flashes away from Meadow Lane

Gordon has spent the past few months on the transfer-list after falling out of favour under Gudjon Thordarson, but the 26-year-old has now agreed a compensation package to allow him to end his Meadow Lane contract - that was set to expire at the end of the season - early.

The big striker has endured a topsy-turvy 18 months with the Magpies, netting eight goals last campaign but failing to find the net in just seven first-team appearences under Thordarson.

The County boss has been keen to move his high-earners off the wage-bill and with the departure of Gordon added to those of Glynn Hurst, Tony Scully, Matthew Gill, Adam Tann and Matty Williams (loan), the Icelander now has substantially more room to manoeuvre as he seeks to strengthen his squad.

Gordon made a total of 39 appearences for the Magpies.

Since exclusively revealing here on NCM that a departure was expected today, speculation had been rife as to who would be the man to go, up until the striker's identity was disclosed earlier this morning.
