Give Jimmy a statue!

Sirrel is widely-regarded by Magpie fans as the club's best ever manager and enjoyed THREE succesful spells at the helm of the Meadow Lane. He orginally took charge back in 1969 and stayed at the club for 6 years until 1975, before Ron Fenton took the reigns.

The legend himself
Fenton lasted two years, before Sirrel replaced him for his second spell in charge! This time the Scot lasted four years, before stepping down in the summer of 1982. Sirrel took over from the hapless Richie Barker for his final spell in charge in May 1985, before leaving the club for good two years later in May 87.

In all, the legendary near 80-year-old managed the Magpies for 533 games, winning 212 of them.

He already has a stand named after him at Meadow Lane, but after frequent requests on the NCM board for the question to be raised, NCM asked whether the fans felt Jimmy deserved a statue - and, more importantly, whether they'd be prepared to dip into their own pockets for it to happen.

And a huge majority of 78.6% said they WOULD be prepared to help fund a statue of the legendary Sirrel. The question that can never be answered, though, is how many of those would actually carry out the action.

Just 16% of readers said a statue would be a waste of time. The full result of the poll is below.

A new poll - likely to be on a more on-the-field matter - will be on NCM shortly. If you have a poll you'd like to see, feel free to e-mail rob@nottscounty-mad.co.uk or contact one of the editorial team via the messageboard.
