Howard Wilkinson is said to play an integral part in Notts' coaching lineup, with his influence said to be incredibly high.

Gerrard... England hero on Notts Director
Now, speaking in his autobiography: 'Gerrard: My Autobipgraphy' Liverpool midfielder Gerrard said: "He (Wilkinson) had a certain reputation. I knew that. Wilkinson was often slated for some of his management skills. True, he was a bit long-winded in team-talks."

Notts fans have recently questioned his involvement alongside manager Steve Thompson, especially with Wilkinson involved in some way with the infamous set-piece defending that has cost Notts valuable points in recent games. To see such a high-profile figure as Gerrard question him will do nothing to ease supporters' latest fears.

"He often sounded like a school teacher addressing very young children. Howard also called team meetings when he didn't really need them" said Gerrard.

He did have some words of praise for the man who was the FA Technical Director at the time of Gerrard's rise into the England set-up, saying: "I liked Wilkinson because he liked me. He always spoke well of me, always included me in his squads, always suggested things to improve my game. He even made me captain of England under 18's - a massive honour."
