Gannon eyes top two double

Last updated : 18 April 2008 By Gary Moss
Stockport County have been the team on everyone's lips in recent outings and no reason more so than their raiding display at Peterborough.

Many may not have even tipped the Hatters to make the play-off spaces this term, but now there is even talk of automatic promotion with just nine points
Hatters...Reason to celebrate
left on the calendar and a narrow margin of just one point separating themselves and third-placed Hereford.

The Bulls take on Posh this weekend which will prove a tidy marker of them against Gannon's team.

There could be a fine chance for County to sneak in at just the perfect time but with top dogs MK Dons next on the agenda, it isn't getting any easier.

The top four all clash this weekend - it could be a strong indicator of how the 'three' of them will fare in League One next time round.

Game of the day: Stockport v MK Dons

No defeats in ten!

28 points from a possible 30!

Two goals conceded in 911 minutes!

Dickinson...Fine form
The Hatters are certainly gathering momentum for the League Two run in. They are good but not that good, people were saying as they faced powerful Posh last Saturday.

But they returned to the North-West with another three points in their bin, yet another three points, a fine clean sheet and reputation on the rise.

Gannon deserves credit but maybe it is too soon to bask him with plaudits.

Stockport still sit fourth, only on the cusp of automatic promotion and in their way stands table toppers MK Dons.

You wouldn't write them off. That is for sure.

Paul Ince's Dons are edging to the league crown but consecutive draws suggest nerves are creeping in. There are no such flaws in a Hatters outfit going from strength to strength in pursuit of League One football.

Liam Dickinson is scoring for fun with seven goals in the last ten games. The
Dyer...Dons threat
tall striker is always a handful and expect the same here at Edgeley Park.

Anthony Pilkington is another man in form while Tommy Rowe's winner at London Road enhanced his image in the division.

Sean O'Hanlon will have to be at the races.

The Dons offer their own set of problems though. Lloyd Dyer has frightened every full-back over the course of the season while the power of Keith Andrews and recent goal flurry from Aaron Wilbraham will have Gannon thinking long and hard too.

NCM Prediction: I backed the Hatters against Posh last week and I'll do the same here! They have been impressive of late.

Elsewhere...

Grimsby's resurgence has really hit the rocks of late with five consecutive league losses seeing them slip into the bottom half.

McCall...Improving Bantams
Just two goals scored in the same spell, leaves Alan Buckley scratching his head in how to get the best from his team who have performed in patches over a largely inconsistent and disappointing season.

It is an away day outing at Bradford next on the agenda.

The Bantams are showing exactly why they could be thebottom tiers big guns next season. Just one defeat from their last seven for Stuart McCall's men has seen them climb to ninth. A patch of form coming just too late to stand a chance of bursting into the play-offs.

The Mariners will have to hit the ground running to dislodge a City camp moving in exactly the right direction.

Wycombe can all but seal their place in the play-offs with a win over Chester at Adams Park.

Thye are five points head of chasing Chesterfield after a bonus midweek win. The Spirietes will be really under pressure if Paul Lambert's Wanderers take the points in this clash.
Richardson...Scrapping for play-offs

Lee Richardson's troops are at home to Darlington hoping to deepen their woe whilst keeping their promotion dreams alive. Failure to win here could mean curtains.

And finally, Wrexham's Conference destiny could be sealed with fellow strugglers Notts County arriving at the Racecourse Ground.

The Magpies will be desperate to end their horror show of a season and this could be their chance.
