Former Magpie Baraclough scoops top award

Veteran midfielder Baraclough has enjoyed a tremendous season for newly-promoted Scunthorpe, turning in a series of workmanlike displays in the heart of the Iron's midfield.

Whilst it looked almost certain that his league football days were over when the 34-year-old was released by the Magpies at the end of season 03/04, Baraclough has discovered a new lease of life under Scunthorpe boss Brian Laws.

And, considering the Iron enjoyed a magnificent season that eventually saw them promoted from League Two in second place, the acheivement of winning a Player of the Season award at such a succesful club cannot be underestimated.

The cultured left-footer has recently been rewarded for his efforts this season by being handed a new one-year deal at Glanford Park.

And now Baraclough - who had two spells at Meadow Lane totalling 7 years - will be continuing his new lease of life in League One next season.

We continue to wish him great success.
