The 23 year old defender was released by Bolton's former Notts manager Sam Allardyce after he failed to break into the first team at the Reebok Stadium.

Former Notts boss Gary Brazil signed the youngster on loan in November 2001, and Richardson appeared on the left wing for a number of games before an ankle injury ruled him out for two months.

Upon his return to the team, he was moved to his more natural position at right back and became a favourite with the fans with his committed performances and his willingness to get forward.

Following his loan spell with The Magpies he returned to Bolton and signed a one year extension to his contract but failed to break into the team at The Reebok and joined Second Division Blackpool on loan for the rest of the season in December 2002.

His release will no doubt attract interest from a number of managers in Division Two, and Billy Dearden may well be looking at bringing Richardson back to Meadow Lane with Notts looking for a new right back following Simon Ramsden's return to Sunderland.
