Formation Change?

After Saturday's debacle at Southport, Dearden has confirmed changed will be made to The Magpies side, and not just in the starting 11.

Dearden is seriously considering playing the 5-3-2 formation against The U's at Meadow Lane this weekend. Jon Ashton is back in the squad after being cup tied for the Southport game and is likely to return in place of Craig Ireland at heart of the defence.

Ian Baraclough and Duncan Jupp are too likely to start the game, and Kevin Nicholson could start after returning from injury.

"The formation is something I have been looking at since about 4pm on Saturday," Dearden told the Evening Post

"It will probably boil down to which players we have available, but given our performance at Southport, there will certainly be changes."

Dearden has mainly used the 4-4-2 formation so far this season, but has used the "diamond" formation a couple of times, which has worked well in patches.

The players who could miss out this weekend could be Danny Stone, Craig Ireland and Darren Caskey, but as of yet Dearden is not giving much away on who will be left out.
