Forest join McGoldrick chase

Nottingham Forest have today confirmed they have upped the ante in the chase for Southampton striker David McGoldrick, by tabling a bid of "more than £1m". The former Notts academy graduate struck 12 league goals last term as the Saints were relegated, and has this summer already attracted the interest of other Championship clubs, including Derby County who were rumoured to have tabled a £600k bid.

Forest chief executive Mark Arthur confirmed the bid today, and said that they are hopeful that Southampton, in administration, will accept the bid. This will also be welcome news at Meadow Lane, with Notts believed to hold a sell-on clause in the region of 20% on the striker.

Having already received payments from Southampton due to an appearance based clause in McGoldrick's contract this week, as well as money from a sell on clause in Leon Best's transfer to Coventry from Southampton last summer, it could well be a good week for the Magpies in terms of earning money. Should the deal go through, it means Notts will be in line to earn in excess of £200,000 from the transfer, on top of the money that has already been added to the Magpies' coffers this week.
