Finnan left The Magpies to join Fulham in 1998 for around £600,000 after two successful years with Notts under Sam Allardyce.

He joined Notts from Birmingham City for £300,000 in 1996 after a promising loan spell earlier in the year, and became an instant hit with the Notts fans.

His performances on the right wing attracted interest from higher club, and Kevin Keegan swooped to sign the Irishman in October 1998.

Since joining Fulham he has become one of their key players, performing consistently in the right back positions and played in all or Ireland's games in the World Cup last summer and has 22 international caps to his name, and one goal.

Liverpool and Manchester United have been interested in signing Finnan for many months now, and it looks like he will be heading to Anfield after a fee of around £3-4 Million has been agreed.

In February 2003, Notts accepted a £250,000 bid from Fulham to buy out Fulham's 15% sell on clause for Finnan, should he ever move from The Cottagers so whatever the fee being for Finnan's move to Liverpool, Notts will not recieve any cash as part of the deal.
