Final day League Two...BIG preview

Last updated : 04 May 2007 By Gary Moss

With the title race, play-off places and relegation battle still finely in the balance, tomorrow promises to be a hectic day of League Two action.

Walsall and Hartlepool are separated on goal difference as they both look to claim the League Two crown.

Walsall are in pole position with a six superior difference, ahead of their final day showdown with Swindon Town at the County Ground.

The Saddlers could be boosted by the return of defensive duo Chris Westwood and Ian Roper.

Victory will almost certainly guarantee Walsall the title baring a massive win for rivals Hartlepool.

The Robins on the other hand need a point to clinch the third automatic promotion slot, and they may have to do so without danger man Barry Corr who is believed to be struggling with a back problem.

Christian Roberts, Michael Pook and Ashley all picked up nocks in training and may too not be fit to see action.

One defeat in the last ten for the league leaders makes them big favourites ahead of the clash.

Prediction: Swindon 0-2 Walsall (Saddlers- Champions)

If Walsall do fail to win, it opens the door for second placed chasing Hartlepool who entertain seventh placed play-off chasing Bristol Rovers.

Trollope... massive day
The Pool will be without goal threatening Richie Barker and Andy Monkhouse who are suspended following their dismissals at Rochdale last week.

In better news, Wilson looks to welcome back Ben Clark and Michael Nelson to his ranks.

Only a win will guarantee play-off football for the Pirates and they will have to do so perhaps without Byron Anthony and Andy Sandell who face late fitness tests.

Failure to win and Rovers chief Paul Trollope will have a careful eye on Stockport away at Darlington.

But, you have to go back to March to see Rovers last league defeat- a point could do the job.

Prediction: Hartlepool 1-1 Rovers (Point enough for Rovers but not Pool)

Stockport have dropped out of the play-off's for the first time since their amazing nine game winning run and they must better Bristol Rovers, if they are to force their way back into a top seven finish.

Dickinson... back at crucial time

The injury Hatters are without three of their defenders as Rob Clare , Michael Raynes and Michael Rose are all out along with middle man Tes Bramble.

On a positive note, forward Liam Dickinson returns from injury.

Darlington may have nothing to play for but they'll be boosted by the return of hitman Gregg Blundell.

The travelling County are without a victory in their last six away games but desperately need to bring home the bacon tomorrow.

Prediction: Darlington 2-1 Stockport (Blundell to crush Stockport's play-off hopes)

Sixth placed Shrewsbury could yet still be dragged into the play-off scrap.

A point at Gay Meadow over Grimsby will be enough to as good as clinch play-off hope for the Shrews.

With a fully fit front line, Shrewsbury could be a trick test for the travelling Mariners.

The Shrews will however be without the services of Lee Canoville, Danny Hall and Ben Herd due to injury.

Peter Bore could feature despite his toe injury for Grimsby, as in form Danny North looks likely to be ruled out.

Two wins and tow defeats in their last four at home will not fill the fans with confidence as they go in search of a result to finish off their on the whole fine season.

Prediction: Shrewsbury 3-1 Grimsby (Shrews ease to play-off's)

Even fifth placed Lincoln City need a point to finish the job as they welcome back old hero Simon Yeo with new club Chester City.

The Imps could give Lee Frecklington the nod who has appeared in just one of the last six games.

New Chester boss Simon Davies looks set to ring the changes and see what his squad depth offers in preparation for next season.

Even defeat would make it unlikely for City to miss out on the play-off's but John Schofield will be hoping his men can claim a win to secure a first leg away game in the play-off semi's.

Just one goal in the last six games for the Imps means they'll welcome a return to form just in time.

Prediction: Lincoln 3-0 Chester (Imps run riot at the Bank)

Ellender... huge loss for Boston
At the bottom, its win or bust for Boston United as only a win will secure their Football League status away at fellow struggling Wrexham.

In a their relegation six-pointer, the Pilgrims have only eight fit first team players available as skipper Paul Ellender and Collin Cryan are both out.

The Red Dragons need a point preserve their League Two life and with Mark Jones and Danny Williams both likely to feature, the home side will be confident doing so.

Just one defeat at home in the last four, not many will bet against the Welshmen to beat the drop.

Steve Evans' depleted Town have just one away win this calendar year and will need one mighty display to complete a fairytale escape.

Prediction: Wrexham 1-0 Boston (Farewell Pilgrims)

Notts could yet have a say in the battle at the bottom. They travel to Moss Rose looking to wipe Paul Ince's Silkmen from the Football League.

If Boston fail to win, Macc are safe but if the Pilgrims avoid defeat, Ince's side will to match them to ensure survival.

With striker John Murphy a big doubt for the home team, it could be a struggle for goals.

The impressive Stephen Hunt is back for the Magpies as he looks set to replace Michael Byron at centre back.

Prediction: Macclesfield 0-0 Notts (A bore draw but it's just the trick for Ince)
