Facey set for Grenada call-up?

Notts County striker Delroy Facey could become the club's first international since 2000 if he wins a place in the Grenada squad for the Gold Cup next month. Facey was called up for a friendly against Panama last weekend, but the game was cancelled at the last minute. However, with the CONCACAF Gold Cup coming up in July, Delroy could be set for international honours.

The Gold Cup is the international tournament for sides from North America, which Grenada have quaGrenada Flaglified for thanks to their 2nd place finish in last year's Caribbean Cup, where they lost 2-0 in the final to Jamaica. This year's tournament is being held in the USA, who are in Group B along with the Grenadians, Haiti and Honduras.

Manager Ian McParland is concerned that it could mean Facey missing a large chunk of pre-season training, but an international call-up to a major tournament could be too much of an opportunity for the powerful striker to turn down. He faces competition for places upfront in the squad, with Jason Roberts the nation's main striker. Bradley Wright-Phillips and Jermaine Beckford are also eligible, but neither have accepted call-ups yet.

The Grenadians are nicknamed the Spice Boyz, and their head coach is former FA Cup winner with West Ham, Tommy Taylor, who was appointed last month ahead of the Gold Cup campaign. The Grenadan FA have only been members of FIFA since 1978, but the sides have finished as runners up in the Caribbean Cup twice.

If Delroy does get a call-up, NCM will be following his Gold Cup progress.
