Facey receives Grenada call-up

As NCM reported last week, Delroy Facey has received an international call-up by Grenada for their Gold Cup squad. The international tournament of North America, the Gold Cup takes place in the USA in July, with Grenada having qualified courtesy of a second place finish in the Caribbean Cup, where they lost 2-0 to Jamaica in the final.

Facey was initially called up for a friendly against Panama earlier in June, but the game was postponed at the last minute, however coach Tommy Taylor obviously saw enough in Facey to call him up to the squad for the Gold Cup. He joins three other English based players in the squad, in Blackburn Rovers' Jason Roberts (although he is yet to commit fully), Gillingham's Rimmel Daniel and Byron Bubb of Slough Town, as well as the nation's most well known player, Shalrie Joseph of New England Revolution.

Unfortunately Facey will miss the start of County's pre-season schedule, but should the Grenadians fail to qualify from the group stage of the tournament, he will be able to experience the majority of County's week long training camp in Austria. Grenada will face the USA, Haiti and Honduras in the group stage, with qualifying from a group including the holders/hosts America and Honduras looking like a difficult prospect for the Spice Boyz.

NCM will be following Delroy's Gold Cup progress...
