Elliot: This is my chance

Elliot, 19, is currently on-loan from Premiership club, Charlton Athletic where Elliot is a regular in the Addicks’ academy set-up, as well as an Irish under-19’s cap.

Elliot: In familiar pose
Making his debut in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at home to Kidderminster, Elliot deputised for the much-favoured Saul Deeney after he saw red for an alleged stamping offence spotted by the ever-watchful linesmen. Elliot came from the bench for the remaining seven minutes of the match.

In which time, Elliot was somewhat unlucky to concede twice – once from the penalty spot.

However, despite somewhat unfortunate circumstances for the teenage goalkeeper, the London-born shot-stopper has vowed to take his chance in the first team.

Speaking to the Notts Official site earlier today, Elliot said "It was nice to get off the bench on Saturday. I have been waiting for a long time to make my debut, and having come here to gain experience I was also coming here to play, and now I have a chance,"

"It is unlucky for Saul, but in some ways it is lucky for me."

"It wasn't the ideal situation for me to make my debut, but I got it anyway. My ideal one I suppose would have been to come on and save the penalty and then us go on to win it or even grab a point. But, that's life and it doesn't happen like that."

However, despite his philosophical approach to the matter, Elliot is by no means humbled by his less-than ideal first taste of League football.

"When Saul went, my first reaction was to strip off and prepare to come on. It was only when I was waiting for Emmet (Friars) to come off that I realised I would be facing a penalty, and then my legs started to shake."

"When you warm up with the lads it is a bit different compared to if you are actually playing from the start, and when you are not really expecting to come on you have to up yourself very quickly and be alert."

Elliot, who is in-line for his full Magpies debut tomorrow night against Boston United, has now vowed to aim to keep his place ahead of Deeney, who misses three of the Magpies’ forthcoming fixtures.

"My aim is to keep my place for the rest of the season. 'Richo' and the lads have all said that if I play well I will keep my place in the side. That is a big boost of confidence for me because Saul is one of the better goalkeepers in the division and I have to do my best to keep him out if I want to hold on to my place."

Arise, Sir Rob
"My first target is to keep a clean sheet at Boston, and I'll take it from there. I am looking forward to it; I feel I am ready for the challenge,"

Meanwhile, YTS first-year trainee Karl Dryden has been added to the Magpies’ squad list earlier today.

The youngster – a regular this season for the youth and reserve outfits – has been handed the number 30 jersey, becoming the sixth ‘keeper to be registered for the club this season.
