Edwards latest

Mike Edwards
Edwards, an immensely consistent if not spectacular member of the Magpies squad, dived, quite typically, into a challenge in Tuesday’s cup defeat at Upton Park, a challenge which saw the former Grimsby man having to be stretchered from the field of play.

However, if affirmed, Edwards could well be looking at lengthy sideline spell of the whole of the current campaign.

24-year old Edwards has made just 10 starts in his short time with Notts, a tally that Mills is resigned not be adding to for quite some time now, after Edwards became the fourth long-term casualty at Meadow Lane since the latter stages of the 2003/04 campaign.

Mills told the Nottingham Evening Post: "We do not yet know for certain how bad the damage is, so we do not want to get too carried away yet."

"But the physio's primary diagnosis is that there is cruciate damage of some sort.

"This is one occasion we are all hoping that he is wrong, but we will not be able to tell for sure until the swelling goes down."

Mills was also quick to underline Edwards’ importance in his side, after producing some steady displays at the back – hence justifying the tag of ‘Steady Eddy’.

"He would be in my team every week, when fit," he said.

"He is just so consistent, you know what you are going to get from him in every game."

"Whatever his injury proves to be, I want him to be back in action as soon as possible."
