Edwards given captain's role

Edwards, 27, started all but two of Notts' games last season and became a firm fans favourite with some sterling displays.

His consistency, leadership and all-round ability make him the ideal candidate to fill the role vacated by Jason Lee who has become team captain - the role of leading the players out of the tunnell on match days - after Alan White left for Darlington in the summer.
Edwards... To get closer with the fans

Edwards is sure to be delighted, as are fans, that the uietly spoken family man will now become more prominent.

The former Hull City ace is the second longest serving player at the club behind David Pipe having been signed during Gary Mills' tumultuous reign.

Edwards is beginning his fourth season with the club next term.

His advanced role will include being the clubs off-field representative, being more prominent with the club's youth set-up and media responsibilities.

Other candidates are said to have included Pipe, Kevin Pilkington and Austin McCann.

NCM with Edwards - their player of the season too - the very best of luck.
