Edwards: Get behind us

Edwards is aware of the need for the players to give the home following something to shout about too, and he is looking to do that. Speaking to the Official Site, Edwards said, “If the fans get behind us from the start it will be a massive boost, and scare the other team. Obviously we have got to perform aswell.”

Following five defeats in six games at Meadow Lane, Edwards is aware that there is something seriously wrong, “We have been playing better away from home. I think it's in the minds of the lads, a little bit nervous.”

Notts are clearly in the hunt for a Playoff place, with Edwards conceding as much, “There's still a long way to go. It's been disappointing the home form, but if we turn it around we've got as good a chance as anybody.”

Despite being perhaps Notts' most consistent performer this season, former Grimsby man Edwards found himself out of the team for the trip to Swindon and the clash with Chester. An illness over Christmas forced him out of the 1-1 draw with the Robins, and the form of Stephen Hunt kept him on the bench as Notts struggled to a 2-1 defeat at home to Mark Wright's men, but he returned with a solid display as Notts saw off Accrington Stanley 2-1 on Saturday. On being on the bench Edwards said, “It was disappointing and it's nice to be back playing again.”

Now in his third season with the club, Edwards is one of the mainstays of the squad, alongside David Pipe who was given his first Professional red card during the win. Edwards had a view on the games big talking point, with Accrington's Alan Rogers being dismissed for a professional foul on Pipe and the Notts man for his reaction, “It was an horrendous tackle, even some of their boys were saying it was career threatening. The referee said Pipe's threw a punch but I don't think he did.”

He added, “Stuff like this ruins the game basically, and it's a bit disappointing because the lad that's done it is obviously pretty experienced.”

On the Torquay encounter Edwards is relishing the week ahead, “It's a great chance for the lads to have a work out this week and try and get a win.”
