Easter Weekend preview

Last updated : 20 March 2008 By Gary Moss
They say the Christmas period is crucial but there is an argument to suggest the Easter schedule is even more important.

McParland...Needs Easter answers
Two quick games in the midst of the season climax could be massive with so much at stake at either end of the league ladder.

How many teams will pick up a full six?

How many will fail to register?

What will the table look like on Monday evening?

After these rounds of fixtures, we are well and truly on the home straight. Sides will not want too much left to do to achieve their goals.

There is hardly time to reflect on the first before the second game is upon you.

A busy time for NCM but moreso for the players.

Feelings will fluctuate over the two game stretch. Enjoy the ride and pray McParland's men come out in better shape than the rest!

Game of round one: MK Dons v Peterborough

It is top versus second on Friday night in what is shaping up to be a fascinating
Ferguson...Fine form
title race in League Two.

Paul Ince's MK Dons were the early pace setters opening up as much as a ten point gap over Darren Ferguson's Posh but a scintilating run has United right back in the mix.

A run of 13 games without defeat has seen Posh claw back onto level points with the Dons.

Last time out, Kevin Gallen and Keith Andrews helped Dons to an important 2-1 away win but United have tightened up at the back and it could be a different story.

Lloyd Dyer is the form man for the Dons. His pace is terrifying while Aaron McLean is just a goal away from 30 in all competitions this season for the hosts.

Between these two sides, they boost the finest crop of players in the league so sit tight and
Dyer...Danger man
enjoy as the championship race starts here.

Posh may fancy their chances of puncturing the Dons' title bid with the league leaders already having suffered five defeats on their own soil this season.

But conceding less goals than anyone else at home, the Dons' record at home is baffling.

Inconsitency has plagued them in front of their home support this term.

NCM Prediction: Honours even but plenty of action.

Game of the round two: Wrexham v Dagenham

The Daggers are in danger of plunging back into relegation trouble after
Little...Sorting home form
three straight losses.

A 4-0 demolition at MK Dons last week and John Still's press rant means confidence is back on the decline.

A win against the bottom side Wrexham could be what they need to see them through to the safe area.

Brian Little on the other hand may still find his side rooted to the foot of the division but with just one loss in their last seven at the Recreation Ground, the Welshmen are still a good bet to pass off the great escape for the second season in succession.

The Dragons' fortunes are on the rise and a slow and gradual route to safety could be on the cards.

Last time out, Redbridge tonked the reds 3-0. Ben Strevens hit a superb decisive second

marked a rare win for the Football League new boys.

NCM Prediction: Dragons roaring away from trouble

Elsewhere...

Chester
face a potentially catastrophic weekend in their bid against Football League relegation with back-to-back ties with the big guns.

Fourth-placed Darlington visit the Deva on Friday night hoping to burst back into the automatic promotion slots while a trip to London Road to face Posh awaits them on Monday.

The Blues are only now seven points ahead of trouble and the pressure is on tempaprary boss Simon Davies to redeem the sinking City.

Wycombe
will put their play-off credentials to the major test with a double-header against their rivals.

A win at Christie Park could put an end to Morecambe's slight chances of
Lambert...play-off fight
gatecrashing the top seven and with Stockport coming to Adams Park on the Monday, the sixth-placed Chairboy's future will be far clearer in 180 minutes time.

Paul Lambert has seen his side lose only two of their last seven as they up their bid for promotion.

Mansfield will want to cash in on the Easter period under the caretaker charge of Paul Holland.

Winnable clashes against Grimsby and Bury are next up for the Stags as they look to build on their win at Bradford last week.

Former Lincoln City man John Schofield is the bookies favourite to take the reins for good next week, and six points here could see Town well on the way to safety.
