Duo sign fresh deals

Martin becomes the third Notts player under contract for next season, following David Pipe and Pilkington. The 19-year-old promptly celebrated his new deal by scoring his fourth goal of the campaign - all of which have come at Meadow Lane - with a cooly-taken volley.

Martin - signed last summer from Derby - has become an integral part of the team in recent months and, though signed predominantly as a left-back, has shown his versatility with a series of top-notch displays in the centre of midfield. The youngster has signed a one-year deal.

Pilkington, meanwhile, has been rewarded for his excellent debut season with the club with a one-year extension, that will mean he will remain at the club until June 2008.

The recently-awarded Players' Player of the Season had previously been the only Magpies' player under contract for next season.

Meanwhile, manager Gudjon Thordarson is hoping to finalise contracts with a number of his existing squad next week, though it is believed that some - including Brian O'Callaghan - have had their original offers withdrawn and now look set to leave Meadow Lane.

Thordarson is particularly keen to keep Mike Edwards, Julien Baudet and Lee Crooks from his existing squad - but is having trouble persuading the centre-back pairing to put pen-to-paper, with Edwards believed to favour a move south and Baudet linked with a switch to Brentford.
