Like a snowball toppling down the side a mountain, Gudjon Thordarson's plans for next season are, albeit slowly, beginning to take shape with the signing of one of the club's young fledglings earlier today.

Gudjon: Still rallying his troops
19-year old Tommy Hannigan is yet to make his first team bow for the club, although much is expected of the youngster after he was crowned ‘Reserve Team Player of the Season' in the last few weeks. Not least from manager Gudjon Thordarson, who has seen enough of the youngster to hand him his first professional contract, a deal that will tie the young defender to the club until January 2007.

With only a six month deal being agreed, Thordarson is hopeful that the player will do enough to convince him that he is worthy of an extended deal, with the short-term deal looking to offer him the incentive for Hannigan to begin to make strides into the professional game.

His first professional deal marks three years of steady progress with the club, with Hannigan's scholarship years spent here notching up the Midlands Youth Cup [2004], as well as the Bass Charity Vase last summer.

However, after having spent time out on-loan at non-league Rugby this season, Hannigan will surely be hopeful of making the step-up from a second-string regular to becoming a telling presence in his first full season as a senior squad member.

Hannigan will return to pre-season training with the rest of the first team squad in June.
