Deeney joins Crewe on trial

The 22-year old ‘keeper rejected an offer on improved terms at Meadow Lane in favour of a move to a bigger club, only to price himself out of the market when a move to Sheffield United seemed a near-certainty.

With the Magpies covering their interests with the signing of Mansfield Town ‘keeper Kevin Pilkington, it seems the door has very much slammed shut in the face of the former Republic of Ireland under-21 international.

With interest gathering from Gresty Road, however, the young ‘keeper – who Notts will definitely receive a fee for, as he is current under 24 years old – has been given permission to train with the Championship outfit as he looks to challenge former Manchester United ‘keeper Ben Williams for a first team spot.

Saul made 37 appearances for County last season, although has yet to feature in pre-season friendlies for the Notts first team.

NCM would like to wish Saul well in his search for a new club.

Deeney is expected to feature on the bench for the Magpies in tonight's friendly against Derby County though, having been named in the 19-man squad by Notts assistant, Ross McLaren.
