Dearden's thoughts after gaining first point.

Dearden: Heff's goal made such a difference
Paul Heffernan claimed a last minute goal Notts, leaving Barnsley to slip from top of the league and Notts with a share of the spoils.

In an interview with the Evening Post, Dearden said why he believes Saturday's draw can lift some of the weight off the players' shoulders. However, he criticised his side’s poor defending, insisting: "We could have had three points instead of one."

"It is going to be a weight off their shoulders," he said. "If we had gone another match without a goal it would have been different.”

"We would still have been bottom of the table, there would have been the same pressure there.”

"The goal has given everyone a lift. It has made such a difference."

But, after a decent first half, Dearden was furious to see the good work undone by an error by defender Nicky Fenton. It was the Preston-born centre half who lazily left the ball for Stephen Mildenhall to collect. A mistake that proved costly for the Magpies leaving the amount of conceded goals at 12 - in just 5 games.

We paid the price for a daft mistake yet again, said Dearden. "It was another sloppy goal and that is the frustrating thing.

All Nicky needed to do was head clear. That is the first rule. If you can head the ball away, do it.”

Dearden admits that individual errors were to blame for many of the 12 goals that the Magpies have conceded

We have conceded 11 goals now this season and I think seven or eight of them have been preventable.

Notts had the opportunity to snatch all three points when Clive Platt found himself unmarked leaving the big man to head the ball down at goal – a move which didn’t pay off.

"It should have been three points rather than one," said Dearden. Clive had a free header and only had to get it on target, but he tried to go for a flick and it didn't come off."
