Dearden: We've not made amends yet

Dearden also hailed Stevie Mildenhall after his wonderful display which kept Notts in the Carling Cup.

Dearden was obviously very hurt at Saturday's display & even after the amazing win yesterday he still admitted the players had no made amends for Saturday's shocker.

"This doesn't make up for Saturday. We were poor and gave away four goals," he told the Evening Post. "Four of the five goals were preventable and it is going to take more than this to make up for that.

"But the lads did prove a point last night, they showed how they are capable of playing, which is what we wanted.

"Make no mistake, Preston are a very good side. They will do well this season. But we managed to beat them, which is superb."

Notts made to changes to Saturday's team, bring in Paul Heffernan and crucially, Steven Mildenhall.

"Steve did superbly to be fair," said Dearden. "He responded superbly, without a doubt.

"They did put us under a lot of pressure and we had to defend stoutly at times. Steve had to make some outstanding saves, he made some really good stops.

"But we did it, we defended superbly, our back four were fantastic.

"And Steve obviously capped things off with the penalty save at the end, which was the first one anyone had got near too.

"The penalties were all outstanding from both sides.

"I don't think you would have seen better penalties in the World Cup. I wondered how long the shoot out was going to go on for. But the lads coped with the pressure incredibly well.

"Hopefully now we will get a decent second-round tie. That could be hugely important financially. Obviously if we can get a big club in the next round, it might bring some money in.

"But it would also be nice to have a home tie for the supporters."
