Dearden said: "They had a lad sent off early on and that was their problem. Once we got in front we carried on pressing and played quite well.
"We could easily have made it 4-0 or 5-0 in the second half but the Tranmere goalkeeper made two or three saves and blocked balls he had no right to get anywhere near.
"It's given us a chance and hopefully we can build on it. With a bit of luck things will get sorted out soon off the field and I'll be able to freshen things up and bring in a couple of players."
