Ashton has started all 4 league games since joining on loan on November 8th, but missed the FA Cup tie at Southport as Leicester did not want him cup tied.

The big centre half has impressed Dearden and feels the youngster has made the defence much more solid in recent weeks. However, the deal hangs in the balance because of Ashton's groin injury picked up at Bristol City.

If he fails to regain fitness, there is not much point in Notts paying his wages if he won't be around to be in the team and with Notts' financial problems at the moment they cannot afford to do so.

But, if Notts allow him to go back to the Walkers Stadium to regain fitness, they would use up another of the eight short-term loans clubs are allowed each season.

Dearden has verbally agreed to extend his move with Leicester, while he has spoken to Wimbledon about extending Jupp's loan deal for a second month.

Jupp has started the last 3 games for Notts, and made a sub appearance at Southport and has looked good in patches, impressing in his forward play.
