Crooks: County deal no Gud

Last updated : 01 June 2006 By Richard Brown

Signed on-loan during the January transfer window, Lee Crooks, during his time here, was a player who evoked somewhat mixed feelings amongst the club's supporters and so, naturally, his departure from the club has been met with similar sentiment on the NCM messageboard.

Crooks: Probably won't sign
Hardly your creative midfield man, the man appropriately-named ‘The Beast' has a long association with the Magpies' recently-departed Icelandic boss having captained Thordarson's Barnsley side during their time together at Oakwell.

So - despite an ultimately poor loan spell - when the offer of a two-year deal for Crooks landed on his doorstep following his release from Bradford City it seemed he was all too willing to team up once again with Thordarson.

Today, however, Crooks has taken an almighty swipe at the club, stating that without Gudjon Thordarson in charge there is no way he will be signing.

Gudjon is a good manager and that is what brought me here. Things have gone on that need to come out and I just think he has been mistreated. There has been interference from upstairs since he got here and if he had full control on his team matters he would have got Notts to the play-offs at least,” fumed Crooks, speaking to the Nottingham Evening Post.

"I was going down the next day to sign for Gudjon because he has a lot of pulling power but I won't be doing it now. No way.

"Good luck to them next season but I fear they will want a lot of nodding dogs – they are not taking the club forward.”

Crooks is currently a free agent having been released by League One side Bradford City.
