County defeated at Derby

Matty Williams netted for Notts
Notts, in behind-closed-doors action, travelled to their opponents training camp for some much needed match practice where they were beaten 2-1 in the pouring rain. Matters were hardly helped for Mills and his men when, after the first 15 minutes, the strains of a return from their holidays appeared all too evident as Junior hit a brace that sent Notts directly onto the back-foot at early doors against what was, in the first half, a very strong line-up from the Magpies.

Matt Williams claimed his first goal for County, albeit in a friendly, late on from the penalty spot although his goal proved little more than a consolation goal.

Matt Edwards came close in the very dying stages with a looping header in a game which gave reason to believe that Chrissy Palmer, ironically having been signed by Derby, may play more of a part in the first-team frame than was first thought.

Judging by the line-ups: Steve Scoffham, Tony Scully and, more suprisingly, Julian Baudet are all carrying injuries and so did not feature at Derby.

NOTTS TEAM FIRST HALF: Saul Deeney, David Pipe, Robert Ullathorne, Mike Whitlow, Mike Edwards, Mathew Gill, Paul Bolland, Stefan Oakes, Chris Palmer, Glynn Hurst, Gavin Gordon

NOTTS TEAM SECOND HALF: Steve Mildenhall, Kelvin Wilson, Ian Richardson, Emmet Friars, Robert Ullathorne, Mathew Gill, Shane McFaul, Spencer Commons, Chris Palmer, Shaun Harrad, Matty Williams
