Could ‘Steady Eddy' still feature?

The former Grimsby Town defender, signed on a free transfer in the summer, picked up the injury in September, just eleven games into the Magpies’ season, instantly, or so we first thought, ending the defender’s season.

The cruciate knee ligament injury, picked up in the 3-2 defeat away to West Ham, had originally looked all set to end the 24-year old’s first season with the club, after having made just eight league appearances thus far.

However, it seems very much as though the crocked ex Hull, Colchester and Grimsby defender – who has also deputised in midfield for the Magpies on occasion – is now hopeful of a return to action before expected.

"All being well and things have progressed well so far, I will be back in light training at the beginning of April," Edwards told Magpies Online, the club’s official site.

"It is frustrating watching in the stands, but the light is there at the end of the tunnel and I would like to think I could maybe get the odd game towards the end of the season."

"But, you have to think is it worth playing a few games when I might not be 100% ready and risk more damage. I'll see how I am but I'd love to get a few games under my belt because it has been such a long time," he added.

"All being well, I can be back at some stage and get back to doing my best for Notts County"

NCM will keep you bang up to date with the latest developments of Edwards’ situation throughout the rest of the season.
