Contracts update

Last updated : 10 May 2006 By Richard Brown

Whilst it is never easy to dictate just how the summer pans out for clubs contract-wise, it is easy to suggest just where our next signing may come from. After some rooting around, NCM brings news of a few targets for Gudjon Thordarson.

Gudjon has made few secrets of his admiration of loan midfielder Lee Crooks who was yesterday, conveniently, informed by his parent club Bradford City that he would not be offered a new deal at Valley Parade.

Having already promised signings from outside of the club, it seems certain that Thordarson will move for ‘The Beast' during the close season, with Crooks, pictured, already having spent the second-half of a largely disappointing season on-loan at Meadow Lane.

Another loan ranger, Eugene Dadi was informed he will be forced to look elsewhere, as the Ivory Coast front-man was released from near-neighbours Nottingham Forest earlier this week.

Dadi spent all of half-a-season at the City ground after signing for then-manager Gary Megson. Like Crooks, Dadi joined the Magpies in January although it is unlikely, to say the least, that the striker will be offered a deal here.

The striker - who will surely rate as one of the worst pound-for-pound loan signings in the club's recent history - is though to be returning to home to his native France.

Meanwhile, Thordarson has offered terms to 19-year old defender Tommy Hannigan, who the Icelandic believes shows many signs of a hot young talent.

Hannigan, who is yet to make his league bow for the club, recently completed a three-year scholarship, going on to be crowned Reserve Player of the Season before capping off a good individual campaign by being offered a short-term contract till January.

Others, though, have not been so lucky. Thordarson has been in discussions with his players all week with his players and, though no official confirmation has yet come from the club, it is believed that players including Brian O'Callaghan, Emmet Friars, Stacy Long and Shaun Marshall will all be on their way.
