Cometh the hour…cometh Gudjon Thordarson

‘The Iceman’ has risen from nowhere to become favourite for the manager’s post, and – if reports from today’s Nottingham Evening Post are of sufficient accuracy – then it could well appear that the former Iceland national side’s manager will be named manager of the club shortly.

Thordarson, who also led Stoke City to the newly-dubbed Championship during his time at the Britannia, has been cherry-picked from a shortlist of around five managers – including recently-axed Cambridge boss Steve Thompson and former Wrexham chief Brian Flynn - who all are believed to have been interviewed over the past fortnight.

Reports from Paul Taylor of the Nottingham Evening Post – a much-trusted source for the club’s fan-base – strongly suggest that the club are locked in negotiations with Thordarson, with hope of bringing the former Iceland boss to the club.

However, the obvious managerial credentials of Thordarson [pictured] certainly look set to cost the club, with doubts arising as to whether or not the club can put up a deal worthy of luring the 49-year-old to the ‘Lane.

The rumours of his supposed soon-to-be appointment have only been fueled today though, by his resignation at Keflavik FC, the Icelandic team he had been in charge of in the past few months.

Should the financial situation prove too much of a stumbling block, the Post names experienced former Walsall boss Ray Graydon - a good friend of Notts director Howard Wilkinson - as next in-line.

Though, if a deal can be agreed, there's no doubt Thordarson would be a popular choice - if the well-visited NCM messageboard is anything to go by.

Be sure that, whatever the outcome of such negotiations, NCM will keep our loyal readers updated with all the latest from the club over the summer months.
