Club release Wilson statement

Championship side Preston North End signed Wilson, 20, on an initial loan spell in order to work around the transfer window ruling that, as of the beginning of the season, clubs outside of the top-flight had to abide by.

Wilson: Preston-bound
The deal echoes that of close neighbours, Nottingham Forest’s move for Nathan Tyson, who joined from Wycombe Wanderers on an initial loan until transfer regulations allowed for the move to be made permanent.

Like Tyson, Wilson is fully expected to sign for his new club when the transfer window opens again during the close-season for a fee believed to be made up of an initial £150,000 payment with performance-based instalments based boosting the deal up to around £300,000 – will be made

The board have, however, revealed that Wilson did not leave without a struggle, with negotiations having already taken a whopping six months before the decision was made to allow clubs to talk to the player.

"The club have been in negotiations with Kelvin for the past six months with regards to a new contract and was offered a substantial contract to remain with the Club for the next few years," the Board’s statement read today.

"However, once it became apparent that the Board were unable to persuade Kelvin to remain with the Club beyond this season, an offer was accepted for his services from Preston North End to take him on loan for the rest of the season with a view to a permanent transfer in the summer."

"The precise details of this deal, however, are to be kept confidential."

The player was out of contract at the end of the season and few believed that an agreement could be reached to keep him at the club, with the player having made the decision with advisors as early as December to move away from Meadow Lane to further his career.

Making over 70 league starts for the club over three troubled seasons, Wilson had become a firm fans’ favourite at Meadow Lane.

Naturally, NCM would like to wish Kelvin well with his new club.
