The 21-year old joined the Magpies in the summer of 2004 on a free transfer following his release by Derby County. Signed by former manager Gary Mills, Palmer played a huge part in Mills’ first team plans, operating on the left wing for the Magpies.

Palmer: On his way out?
However, since the appointment of Ian Richardson, Palmer has been dropped to the bench following accusations of the player simply not being willing to get his knees dirty.

Now, according to reports from Sky News’ Planet Football site, the former Derby and Hereford man has been said to be looking for a swift exit from the club he joined less than a year ago.

Palmer has even confessed to be willing to take a step down to Conference level, where he played whilst on loan at Hereford, if it means gaining first team football.

The move – despite the rise in form of out-of-position Paul Bolland on the left wing – will come as a massive surprise to supporters who have heard little of Palmer’s discontent, despite his omission from the first team having been noticeable over the past few months.

Palmer, speaking to Planet Football, is quoted as saying "I'm frustrated with how things have worked out and think it might be time to take a step back to go forward."

Palmer’s plump for a move away from Meadow Lane goes a long way to confirming a lot of players’ heads not being completely on task, although the youngsters concerns with regards to lack of first team football seem perfectly justified.

The youngster last turned out for the Magpies in the 1-0 derby day defeat at home to Mansfield, coming on as a 60th minute substitute for another of those exiled from first team action, Tony Scully.

In any case, the loss of such an obvious talent – especially before having really seen the young winger in full bloom – would impose serious threats on the future of the club, especially having just released Kris Nurse and another left-sided youngster in Eddie McIntyre.

Be sure that NCM will keep you up-to-date with any potential goings-on with regards to transfers prior to Thursday’s deadline.
