"It is something I am thinking about," Dearden told the Evening Post.
"Steve has had a lot of experience in the role; he was captain at Huddersfield for a long time and his leadership skills are something it may be wise to utilise.
"He leads the back line well and that is something that is always useful." He added.
Darren Caskey and Ian Richardson both wore the captains armband last season, with the experienced Richardson set to stay on as club captain while Caskey didn't do himself any favours for reclaiming the armband, as he picked a large amount of yellow cards for backchatting to referee's on a number of occasions last season.
