Captain set for Crewe switch

Baudet has spent two largely successful seasons at Meadow Lane, but is out of contract this summer and refused the offer of an improved two-year deal.

The Frenchman attracted interest from a number of clubs in League One but has opted to join Dario Gradi's newly-relegated outfit, with the remaining month of his Meadow Lane deal mutually terminated today.

Baudet captained the Magpies throughout this campaign, after first being handed the armband under Ian Richardson in March 2005. The big defender retained the role under Gudjon Thordarson, despite the arrival of Lee Crooks and the emergence of David Pipe.

The 27-year-old was brought to the club by Gary Mills, initially as a midfielder, but has instead been a key figure in the club's back four, under three different managers.

Though his form dipped drastically at the back end of the previous campaign, Baudet still finished second in the club's Player of the Year vote.

Baudet had long-since made up his mind to leave Meadow Lane - as first revealed on NCM back in mid-May - with his agent talking to a number of clubs in the bottom two leagues.

Though heavily linked with Brentford, the move to Crewe still represents something of a positive career move for the uncompromising defender. He is expected to finalise his move at Gresty Road in the next couple of days.

In total, the Frenchman made 89 appearences for Notts, notching-up an impressive 13 goals in the process.

All at NCM wish him well.

Following Baudeet's departure, there are now just four players who are unsure of their Meadow Lane futures. Steve Scoffham, Emmet Friars, Chris Palmer and Lewis McMahon face a nervous wait while the club continue their search for a new manager.
