Canham may be just the tonic

41 goals: Canham was a regular on the score sheet at Team Bath.
Fallen casualties, departed loanees and under performers. Changes to the side are certain, but the extent of the alterations remains unclear.

Cameo striker, Sean Canham is arguably the main player knocking strongly on the first team door, following his third strike of the season against Kettering Town.

His goals per minute ratio is highly commendable, especially when considering that Saturday's FA Cup tie was his first full 90 minutes in the black and white stripes.

In total, he has started only three games and appeared briefly as a substitute in a further seven, scoring three.

Delroy Facey has the same number chalked up alongside his name. The prominent difference is that the powerful front-man is joint top of the appearance chart, alongside top-scorer, Richard Butcher.

His record is protected somewhat by his supporting role; however, a recent dip in form has uncovered reasons for him to join Jamie Forrester in striking reserve.

It is fair to say that despite his best efforts, Canham has not yet been given a fair crack of the whip, having failed to start a solitary league game since signing in the summer.

Speaking to the Nottingham Evening Post, he revealed how limited opportunities have affected him.

"It has been frustrating not playing but when you get the chance you have got to take it," he said.

"You have got to try and score goals to keep yourself in the manager's mind and hopefully he will pick you in the next game.

"I hope I have done that with my goal and performance (against Kettering). I will certainly be ready to play if he wants me."

Although his all-round contribution leaves much to be desired - quite possibly through a lack of match practice - there is no questioning his instinctive qualities inside the box.

With things not going swimmingly at present, the gangly hit-man could be just what Notts need - someone who can sneak a decisive goal through sheer intuition in and around the area- to grind out the results so desperately needed.

A man of the match performance on Saturday may have set the former Team Bath predator up for his big opportunity, but the returning Jonathan Forte could get in the way of him doing so.
