Bolly: I wanted to stay

Since NCM broke the news of Bolland’s departure yesterday the former Notts midfielder has seemed very vocal in his reasons behind the move.

The 25-year old, who completed his move to Blundell Park yesterday, was set to become a free-agent when his current deal with the club expires at the end of next week.

Bolland: 'It never had to be like this..."
Without a renewed deal having been offered and Gudjon Thordarson lacking interest in re-signing the player, Bolland was free to negotiate a move away from Meadow Lane under the Bosman ruling.

With the player out of contract, interest started to gather from around the league, with Rushden & Diamonds, Leyton Orient and Peterborough all reported to have sniffed at the player, before penning a two-year deal with Grimsby Town early yesterday afternoon.

A visibly upset Bolland, speaking to the NEP today, said: "When the new manager was appointed he said he wanted to keep me and we would have a chat but that never happened and I needed to get things sorted out. He said he would be going to Iceland for a couple of weeks so I left my agent's details but that was the last thing I heard from him or Notts.

"What Notts do is up to them but after six-and-a-half years of giving 100% and being loyal, they could have shown me some loyalty back.

"Notts could have at least had the courtesy to phone me up," the now Grimsby man went on, hurt by his treatment late into his County career.

"They could have handled things better. But I enjoyed my time at the club and love the fans."

Naturally, NCM wish Bolland well at Blundell Park, as the Yorkshire-born midfielder moves on to pastures new after nearly seven years with the club.
