Northampton Town are in financial difficulties, but that often makes a team stronger, says the 35-year-old defender.
"I had it when I was at Hull and we didn't get paid for about three months," he told BBC Radio Nottingham.
"The club was nearly going out of the league, but we showed our best form."
"We won five or six games on the spin and got ourselves up the table and finished in a great position. It can bring unity."
