Bereaved Gudjon returns to Iceland

The Notts manager will return to Iceland early this week to mourn with family in his native Iceland, following the passing of his father last Thursday.

Remarkably, Thordarson (pictured) chose to hide his grief from his player’s and backroom staff in order to focus on his side’s trip to Bury – an act that has drawn much respect and compassion from the club’s supporters.

His silent suffering was not in vain, however, as his side managed to propel themselves back into the top half of the table, after securing only their first win in ten league outings.

Gudjon will fly home for Friday’s funeral, before returning for Saturday’s FA Cup First Round clash with League One side, Bristol City. Assistant manager, Ross McClaren will handle first team duties in the Icelandic’s absence.

NCM would like to offer Gudjon and his family our sincere condolences.
