Ben Turner set to prove fan wrong

Turner said “You need a good record to show you are a good defender.

“I remember the first two or three games, and while I am an older pro, my friends and family say ‘oh you’ve got nothing to prove’.

“But in one of the first games back from pre-season, somebody wrote something on the bottom of one of the news articles on the Nottinghamshire Live website.

“It said ‘well we are not going to get very far when the number five is moving like a Sunday League centre-half’.

“I am a big ugly old man now, and I was like okay ‘I’ll show him’.

“I don’t even know who he is but I will show them long-term what the team and I are about.

“The guy might have forgot what he had written, but I won’t.

“Little things like that spur you on as an experienced pro.

“It’s fine because I’ve been at other clubs when fans have said ‘oh God, he doesn’t move great’.

“I know I don’t move great!

“But it makes you want to go okay, on one hand there’s that, but on the other, here you are, that’s the least goals conceded in the league, mate.

“As a defence you don’t want to concede the most goals, so it’s nice where the record is at the minute.

“But a few of the lads have been talking to me about it and I’ve just gone ‘shush, don’t’.

“You never know what is around the corner. We could take a hiding in the next game, couldn’t we?

“But it’s kind of let’s just whisper about it.”
