Baudet: We're on the up

Who’d have thought, at the beginning of the season in which we expected the dizzy heights of promotion, that it would take a trademark spot-kick, 12-yards out from the towering French defender to secure Football League status for the Magpies?

But, on the other hand, who’d have thought that that – going on recent form – the Magpies would be able to pull off back-to-back performances over high-flying Yeovil and, as of Saturday, Lincoln City; positioned second and sixth, respectively.

Baudet: 'We're now gelling'
In a season of disappoint, however, defender Ju Baudet – who slotted home his fourth of the season against the Imps at the weekend – believes that the Magpies are finally realising the potential that they were assumed with at the beginning of the season, saying that the blend of youth and experience – now 41 games into playing with each other – are finally beginning to ‘gel’.

After having felled every side in the top seven of the league – bar the new league leaders, Southend United – at least once, it is obvious that the foundations are there for a serious challenge for promotion next season, if the Magpies can curb their consistent inconsistency.

"We are again showing what this team is capable of. Confidence is growing, there is no question of that. We are building up momentum for next season," said Baudet, speaking to the Nottingham Evening Post earlier today.

"We have a good mixture of young players and those with experience and things are starting to gel for us."

"It has been a disappointing season, because we have not produced our best often enough. But, in the last two games, we have again demonstrated what this team can do," he added.

"We want to finish this season with a good run of form, but if we can start well next season, there is every reason to be confident."

Elsewhere, midfielder Stef Oakes has been ruled out of the clash with Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium in five days time.

The creative midfielder, whose contract with the club expires at the end of the current season, was sent off for two bookable offences at the weekend, and has thus been handed an automatic one-match ban as a punishment.
