Baudet the latest victim

Frenchman Baudet was withdrawn towards the end of last night's clash against Wrexham, after landing awkwardly after jumping for a header.

And the 25-year-old is now a major doubt for Saturday's visit of Leyton Orient, leaving the already depleted Magpies defence in major trouble. However, it is believed Baudet still has a decent chance of making this weekend's clash, providing the swelling on his knee reduces during the next few days.

Elsewhere, it wasn't all doom and gloom on the injury front for the Magpies as they did have two returning from the treatment table last night.

Striker Gavin Gordon (ankle) and young midfielder Shane McFaul (toe) were both on the bench for last night's clash, with Gordon being used in the dying moments.

Left sider Rob Ullathorne may also be back for Saturday, after a cald strain ruled him out of yesterday's game. The future's not so bright, though, for Stefan Oakes who, after making his comeback from a long term groin injury, suffered a reaction and has been ruled-out of action for a further two weeks.

Striker Steve Scoffham (broken leg) is still atleast a month away from any kind of match fitness, but one long-term absentee on his way back is Chris Palmer.

Palmer is still to make his full debut for the Magpies, after an impressive pre-season ended abruptly with him suffering a broken ankle.

However, the 20-year-old signed in the summer from Derby County, has spoke of his desire to get back soon.

"What I really want to do is show what I can offer the team, I want to get involved," he told the Evening Post.

"I think I started well in pre-season. Hopefully, I was starting to show what I am capable of."
