The 27-year old former Magpies captain had already agreed, in principle, a deal with the Railwaymen that was to be finalised over the weekend.

Baudet: 'It was time for a change'
And so when Baudet today, after spending the weekend back in his indigenous France, inked his deal with Dario Gradi's men, it came as no surprise to the Magpies faithful the defender leaves behind.

Despite the offer of a fresh two-year deal at Meadow Lane it was widely believed that the burly centre-half had all but decided on his future away from the ‘Lane, with his agent having been in touch with a number of clubs throughout the lower leagues, namely Sheffield Wednesday, Brentford, Bradford and Gillingham prior to completing his move to Gresty Road.

Speaking to the club's official web-site, the outbound defender wished the club all the best for the future.

Obviously things seem a bit up in the air at Meadow Lane right now, but I hope everything works out for the Club.

From the bottom of my heart I wish Notts County and the supporters the very best of luck. It's been two fantastic years but now it is time to move on.

I've got the security of a three-year contract and that is a big thing for me; Crewe are a good club too and having been there on Friday and looked around their facilities and spoken to their Gaffer I knew it was the right move
