The midfielder does not feature in Harry Redknapp's plans at Fratton Park, and took part in yesterday's 1-0 reserve defeat to Grimsby.

He showed flashes of good skill and worked hard at winning the ball and letting Darren Caskey do the rest, certainly a player who can do that is worth adding to the Notts squad, adding abit of steel in the centre of the park.

Dearden will have another look at him in a match situation next week when the reserves travel to Boston United.

Billy Dearden told the Evening Post today his thoughts about the youngster;

"He began his career with Chelsea, so he has a good background too.

Neil Barrett
"He has had a lot of injury problems and has only been back in training for a couple of weeks, and it may take him a little while to get properly sharp.

"But he could be a reasonable prospect.

"You are always looking for players who are better than the ones you already have.

"We have invited Neil back next week to see if he fits into that category.

"He will come and train with us for a couple of days and play in our reserves match at Boston on Wednesday."
