April Player of the Month

Last updated : 30 April 2008 By Paul Smith
It was Johnson who came out on top, for the second successive month, as he polled a huge 58% of all votes.

'Johnno' came back to the club on loan from Premiership Derby in February
Johnson... The heartbeat of survival bid
and has been one of the main reasons why Notts have avoided relegation into the Blue Square Premier.

Johnson, 35, started his career at Meadow Lane in the 90s, and still has the club in his heart as his excellent displays in April have proved.

The centre-back could even get away with a bizarre own goal in a dreadful 4-2 defeat at Rochdale during April to coast to the award.

The month featured away defeats at Bury (2-1), Dale (4-2) and Wrexham (1-0) aswell as two home wins with Magpies fans back in the Kop over Accrington (1-0) and Wycombe (1-0).

Johnson was in particularly good form in the two wins and was integral to two clean sheets in this period.

In second place for April was wideman Weston who enjoyed easily his best month since signing for the club last summer.

Weston... Battles at Wrexham, but creativity won through
Weston was unplayable and man of the match in the win over Wycombe, and wasn't far short of that form against Accrington.

He also created Jason Lee's first goal of the season in a substitutes role at Rochdale and has looked full of skill, pace and creativity all month. He picked up 26% of the votes.

In third place was Edwards, again largely owing to the two crucial home clean sheets, he polled 7%, as did Butcher, whose goal against Wycombe preserved Notts' Football League status.

Ryan Jarvis, matchwinner over Stanley, came fifth with 2%.
