Boertien has played regularly for Derby in the past and can play on the left side of defence, or as a left winger.

He is 25, and has been at Derby for nearly five years, after joining from Carlisle for £250,000.

Boertien was a regular for The Rams last season, and also featured during their stint in the Premiership, but has fell down the pecking order of late and last played in their 0-0 draw at Milwall back in November.

In all, he has made 96 league appearences for the Rams, scoring twice.

The left sider goes straight into the squad to face Swindon and Saturday and left- back Kevin Nicholson is probably the most vulnerable following Boertien's arrival.
