Open Day review

The day consisted of fun for all the family. Football in the Community put on various football skill competitions, htting the ball through a hole (a.k.a Soccer Am) and a machine, which tested how fast your shot was.

All of the fans that attended were given a guided tour of the ground – including the Home dressing room, the referee's room, the boardroom and even the press box.

Guided tour
Various cult-heroes including Colin Slater, who was full of excitement for the new season, and Tommy Johnson, were there to support the day. Tommy, however, did state he would not be coming back to the Lane as a player.

Unfortunately, it seems Notts don’t have a trophy cabinet. The only cup that was visible was the Youth Cup trophy which Willis Francis (now at Grantham) and Emmet Friars have both lifted in the past two years. I was informed this was because certain trophy’s and cups stay with directors.

Apparently a Police investigation is taking place into the Anglo-Italian trophy won back in the early Nineties.

New memorabilia was placed in the Oriental Suite, which brought a lot of memories back to the older generations of Notts fans. Old photos and pictures of the ground and past glories.

The new kit was launched. The home shirt going for the “V” stripes rather than normal vertical ones. The shirt of course has the new badge and new kit sponsors Errea and the Paragon has a new logo too. On a personal note, I have to say it's the best kit I've seen Notts have for years.

The afternoon finished off with the Notts players signing autographs and having their pictures taken with the fans. They all seemed in very high spirits after there 2-0 victory yesterday at Shildon. All of them very happy to talk and they obviously loved the attention that they were getting.

Overall the day was a complete success. Congratulations must go to the Supporters Trust for arranging the event. It certainly generated a huge interest in the club. Hopefully this success will lead to more such events with the Trust being a key part of the club.

After such a day, the fans were left chomping at the bit to see the new-look side in action for the first, and last, home friendly of the season this Wednesday. The match is against First Division Coventry City and kicks off at 7.45pm.
