Wycombe Wanderers... In Focus

Last updated : 18 December 2006 By Gary Moss

The Chairboys will be looking to clinch an automatic promotion place after the disappointment of last season. Wycombe led League Two in mid-February but following the departure of boss John Gorman, won only four of their last thirteen games to finish sixth and miss out via the play-off's.

Lambert...Plenty to ponder
Paul Lambert has taken the reigns for this campaign hoping to avoid a fourth season in League Two.

Currently fifth in the table the problem has been the ability to beat sides around them losing to Walsall, MK Dons, Lincoln, Hartlepool and Notts County already this season. Wanderers have picked up just four points from top eight opposition.

A run of eight straight league wins over August and September showed the division that Lambert's men are no mugs, but at the same time, if they can consistently begin to beat the sides around them, there's every chance that Wycombe will be going up come May.

The side's League Cup run is without doubt the biggest success of their season so far as they have taken the scalps of Swansea, Fulham and Doncaster on their way to a quarter-final clash with Charlton.

Jermaine Easter and Tommy Mooney have got twenty-four goals between them in all competitions already this season, and look a class act ready to step up into League One.

With the third meanest defence in the league also, Wycombe are certainly one of the big guns.

Manager: Paul Lambert

League position (on December 18th 2006): 5th

Betsy...seen with Notts man Austin McCann

Top goalscorer: Jermaine Easter has a massive 14.

Goals Scored: 26

Goals Conceded: 19

Player of the season so far: Kevin Betsy has lit up League Two this season with his blistering pace and skills creating and scoring goals for Wycombe. A prized asset at Adams Park. Notts fans will remember his virtuoso display in the Cup.

Against Notts: The Magpies fans won't forget Wycombe's trip to Meadow Lane in a hurry. An early Junior Mendes goal gave County a 1-0 win to end a run of 12 home games without victory. Thommo's troops travel to Wycombe early February.

Drapes Prediction: The Chairboys to nick an automatic spot. 3rd
